Spend time with your Second family
Dear Second Baptist Family and Friends:
After several days of seeking God’s wisdom regarding how we should respond as a congregation to the intensifying crisis of the Coronavirus/ COVID-19, I have come to understand that the greatest demonstration of our love for God and our neighbors requires that we manifest the strength of our faith beyond the walls of the church building that stands proudly on the corner of 4th and Broadway.
The impending health threat to the most vulnerable among us presents an unprecedented challenge for the faithful who believe in the sovereign power of an almighty God as we also commit to following the stipulations presented by Centers for Disease Control and the City of Columbia Department of Public Health.
To minimize the risk of exposure to the virus, we will adhere to the recommendation for social distancing by canceling all meetings, special events and worship services tentatively until April 19; however, we will monitor the news daily to determine if it will be feasible to open for small group gatherings beginning April 1 as we transition back to our regular schedule.
We have always proclaimed that the church is not the building but the connected lives of believers. With this in mind, we will embrace this moment as a call to evolve our perceptions of what is required to not only sustain but also to expand the church. Prayer is the answer, so we encourage you to pray that God will bring an end to this global pandemic and for divine protection of health care workers and healing for those who have been impacted.
We are developing ways to use emerging technology to stay connected in worship and fellowship as we endeavor to respond to the needs of the community in new and innovative ways. It will not be “church as usual” and that is truly exciting! In the next few days, we will forward a schedule of programs that will replace our traditional calendar of events and I encourage everyone to also call, text and visit each other on a regular basis.
Meanwhile, please support the ongoing work of our church through your faithful giving by donating here.

I am assured that we will emerge from this experience confident that our God is able to do “exceeding and abundantly” more than we could as ask or imagine.
Until we meet again,
Rev. Clyde Ruffin, Pastor
